Work on the first phase of a major retail expansion at Groves Garden Centre in Bridport has completed and has been well received by customers.
Property development specialists Malcolm Scott Consultants secured planning permission for more than 13,000 sq ft of covered retail space at the centre earlier this year, with the doors to the new entrance building having opened last month.
Groundworks began at the beginning of July to create a new entrance canopy and undercover plant area at the centre in place of two existing canopies, with established design and build specialists Fordingbridge instructed on the project.
Chris Primett, Director at Malcolm Scott, said: “Charlie Groves and his team have always had a strong vision for the centre and are committed to its constant improvement.
“These proposals were submitted with the intention of creating an extensive, multi-functional year-round retail space which will certainly pay dividends in the coming months as visitors appreciate the all-season benefits it offers,” he added.
A Glulam Hybrid canopy was chosen for its architectural harmony with Ivy House, the on-site café at the centre, which was built in 2018. The design features wooden curves which provide a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Steel uprights offer the flexibility to enclose the area in the future if required.
The canopy not only provides aesthetic appeal, but creates a light, bright space that encourages customers to explore the centre freely. The new space will allow for the year-round display of products in an inspirational and dynamic way. Charlie Groves, owner of the centre, said: “We are thrilled with how the project has turned out. The new entrance is exactly what we hoped for – a space that welcomes visitors and showcases our plants and products beautifully in every season.
